Annapolis, Md. - The Navy men's track & field team braved the rain and played host to a quad-meet Saturday at Ingram Field. Colgate, Rhode Island and Rutgers also competed in the meet, but there were no team scores due to the inclement weather that cancelled a few events.
Five midshipmen earned victories on the day. Junior Joshua Sink (Welcome, N.C.) claimed gold in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:05.80, while Jamar Green (Pineville, La.) was crowned the winner in the 400 meters with a time of 49.34. Sophomore Michael Niemi (Duluth, Minn.) was the other Navy runner to win an event during the meet as he placed first in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:29.96.
A pair of seniors took gold in the throwing events. Outdoor captain Ralph Lufkin (Basking Ridge, N.J.) won the hammer throw by posting an IC4A qualifying mark of 178'6". Kyle Obrock (Boalsburg, Pa.) won the javelin by tossing it a distance of 188'10-1/2".
All times in the running events were hand times due to the rain.
Navy will be back in action Wednesday through Friday, as it competes at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
