Navy head coach Stephen Cooksey was named the 2005 Patriot League Men's Track & Field Indoor Coach of the Year two weeks ago at the league championship.

Annapolis, Md. - The Navy men's track & field team will compete at the 2005 IC4A Track & Field Championship Saturday and Sunday (March 5-6) in Boston, Mass.

The Midshipmen are coming off a bye week after they successfully defended their Patriot League indoor track & field championship two weeks ago in Bethlehem, Pa.

Navy totaled 196 points to easily distance itself from second-place Army (152) at the league championship.

In the process, head coach Stephen Cooksey and two midshipmen were honored by the league.

Cooksey was honored as the 2005 Patriot League Indoor Coach of the Year, marking the second-consecutive season he garnered the award.

Senior co-captain Ralph Lufkin (Basking Ridge, N.J.) was named the Outstanding Male Field Performer of the Meet following his victory in the 35-pound weight throw Saturday and his fourth-place finish (51'0-1/4") in the shot put Sunday.

The Patriot League also honored junior Jamar Green (Pineville, La.) as its Outstanding Male Track Performer of the Meet. On the final day of the meet, Green was crowned champion in the 200 meters (22.37), 400 meters (49.55) and in the 4x400-meter relay (3:21.37) as the second leg of the team. The other members of the relay team included freshman William Ricks (Sussex, Va.), sophomore Michael Levinson (Willingboro, N.J.) and freshman Paul Harris (Woodbury, Minn.).

"The guys did a great job competing and I'm really proud of them. They deserve this championship," Cooksey said.

Another highlight of the day came in the 60-meter hurdles as senior Trevis Rainey (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and junior Marcus Scarborough (Columbia, S.C.) placed first and second, respectively. Rainey recorded a top time of 8.16, while Scarborough posted a time of 8.41 to earn Second-Team All-Patriot League honors.

Junior Joshua Sink (Welcome, N.C.), who earned Second-Team All-Patriot League honors in cross country last fall, won the 3000 meters in a time of 8:21.25. He crossed the finish line seven seconds ahead of American's Sean Duffy (8:28.01).

Navy also had a terrific showing in the field events as a pair of freshman earned their first Patriot League championships.

Darryl Hunter (Des Moines, Iowa) won the shot put with a toss of 52'10-3/4" for his fourth victory in the event this season.

Dante Marshall (Hermitage, Pa.), who was honored as the Patriot League Male Field Athlete of the Week earlier this season for his performances in the triple jump, won the event with a leap of 46'10". His distance was considerably further than second-place finisher Stephen Ekema-Agbaw (American), who jumped 45'7".

Two other mids earned second-place finishes to garner all-league honors on the afternoon.

Freshman Craig Meekins (Baldwin, N.Y.) placed second in the 800 meters (1:55.31), while Ricks finished runner-up in the 400 in a time of 50.51.
