Men's Track & Field Will Compete At Iowa State This Weekend
Links associated with this release: The Navy men's track & field team will travel to Ames, Iowa, to compete Friday and Saturday at the Iowa State Track Classic. The Mids (1-1) are fresh off their dramatic 92-89 N-Star victory over Army last Saturday at Halsey Field House. Due to the finish of the mile relay race, the visiting Black Knights have protested the scoring of the meet to the NCAA Track Rules Committee, who has yet to make a decision on the matter. Junior distance runner Aaron Lanzel (Sugar Grove, Pa.) had a pair of IC4A-qualifying performances for Navy, besting Army All-America Clay Schwabe for a victory in the mile (4:07.81) and placing second behind teammate Erik Schmidt (So./Spokane, Wash.) in the 1000m (2:28.92). Maryland natives Michael French (Sr./Ellicott City) and Ben Morris (Jr./Annapolis) will be joining Lanzel in the March 2-3 meet in Boston, Mass., by virtue of their one-two finish in the 3000m, while Doug Kay (Sr./Amherst, Va.) qualified for IC4As with his first-place finish in the 500m (1:04.59). Navy's top-two horizontal jumpers, senior Daniel Chapman (Glen Rose, Texas) and freshman Adriel Morgan (Portage, Mich.) had IC4A-qualifying efforts in the triple jump (second/47'10.5") and long jump (first/23'11"), respectively. The Iowa State Track Classic will serve as Navy's final meet before their annual appearance at the Feb. 15-17 Patriot League Championship in West Point, N.Y. |
