March 4, 2006
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- The No. 14 North Carolina tennis team won all seven matches in straight sets to defeat Navy, 7-0. The loss drops Navy to 8-4 overall heading into next weekend's off week. "It is a very good UNC team and played like the No. 14 team today," said Navy head coach John Officer. "We fought hard, but they just had too much for us. We'll take a lot from the weekend and learn from a pair of very good teams." Navy's best chance at winning a set came from Adrian Lai at No. 2 singles. Lai dropped the first set, 6-0, but made a match of it in the second set before dropping his match to Derek Porter, 6-0, 7-5. Brandon Carter also lost a tight one in the first set at No. 3 singles, 6-4, before falling in the second set, 6-1.
