RALEIGH, N.C. -- The No. 33-ranked North Carolina State tennis team was too much for Navy, handing the Mids a 7-0 loss on Friday afternoon. The loss drops Navy's record to 8-3 overall, heading into tomorrow's match with 14th-ranked North Carolina.

"They were just too strong for us," said Navy head coach John Officer. "We had a couple of injuries and had trouble adjusting to the outdoors, but they were just better than us today. It was a difficult match for us today."

Navy's best chance at a win came at No. 5 singles, where Alex James dropped a 7-5, 6-3, decision. Nate Nelms also was competitive, dropping a 6-4, 6-1, decision to No. 64-ranked Nick Cavaday. North Carolina won all six singles matches in straight sets, and cruised in the three doubles matches.
