The Navy men's and women's swimming and diving teams will be in competition this weekend at their respective Eastern championship meets.

The men's team will be in action at the Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League Championship, being held Thursday through Saturday in Boston, Mass., while the women's team will compete at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship, Thursday through Saturday in Pittsburgh, Pa., (swimming) and in Newark, Del., (diving).

The EISL is comprised of the eight Ivy league schools, plus Army and Navy. The Mids posted a 4-5 dual-meet record this season against teams from the EISL, including a N-Star victory over Army. Individually, Brett Cline (Sr., Virginia Beach, Va.) has returned to the form this season which made him one of the top sprinters in the EISL. He has posted five victories this year in the 50 and 100 freestyle events.

Another key performer in the short distances for the Mids this year has been Marshall Boyd (Pittsburgh, Pa.). The sophomore also has posted five victories this year, with his wins coming in the 100 and 200 free. In the distance events, junior Sumner Rollings (Poway, Calif.) and senior team captain Garrett Kulczycki (Vero Beach, Fla.) have combined for five victories of their own this campaign.

One of the more well-rounded swimmers for Navy this season has been Terrence Fenningham (So., Philadelphia, Pa.), who has posted victories in the 50 freestyle, the 100 freestyle, the 100 butterfly and numerous relay events.

"We have raced pretty well this season against the teams we will face this weekend," said Navy head coach Lee Lawrence.

For the first time in three seasons, the Navy women's team heads into the ECAC Meet as the Patriot League championships. The Mids won their eighth league title in dramatic fashion Feb. 14-16 in Lejeune Hall. Team captain Melissa Hawley (Sr., Brentwood, Tenn.) was named Patriot League Swimmer of the Year after she won three events at the championships -- 200 individual medley, 400 individual medley, 200 butterfly. Hawley has won the 200 IM ECAC title in each of her first three seasons.

Tori Throckmorton (Fr., Ann Arbor, Mich.) was the lone other Mid to win an event at the championships, winning the 100 butterfly and also finaling in a pair of other events.

Megan Welsh, Allison Moon and Laurie Felker joined Hawley and Throckmorton on the all-league team. Welsh (Fr., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) placed second in the 200 freestyle, fourth in the 100 free and seventh in the 500 free. Moon (So., Bradenton, Fla.) placed second in the 50 free, third in the 100 free and eighth in the 200 free. Felker (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.) placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke, fifth in the 100 breaststroke and seventh in the 200 IM.

"We are proud to enter this weekend as the champion of the Patriot League," said Navy head coach Dick Purdy. "But as happy as we are with that title, we still have a lot we can accomplish this weekend as we compete for the best team on the East Coast."
