Sprint Football Defeats Cornell, 28-12
Links associated with this release: ITHACA, N.Y. (Oct. 13) -- The Navy sprint football team opened Collegiate Sprint Football League play with a 28-12 victory over Cornell Friday night. The Midshipmen (2-1, 1-0) jumped on top of the Big Red early and often. The Mids opened the scoring in the first quarter when Jason Kranker scored on a one-yard run. The extra point failed, giving Navy a 6-0 lead. Navy added to its lead in the second quarter by marching 68 yards in 10 plays, culminating in a 27-yard touchdown pass from Kranker to senior Ben Wilson. Wilson caught the two-point conversion to put the Mids up, 14-0, with 12:28 left in the first half. An interception by Tim Gallagher led to Navy's next touchdown. The Mids wasted little time scoring their third touchdown of the half. Navy moved 68 yards in 2 plays, ending in an Arnold Selvidge 11-yard touchdown run. The Mids went into halftime with a commanding 21-0 lead. Selvidge scored Navy's final touchdown of the night on a 12-yard run with 1:23 left in the third quarter. Selvidge led the Mids in rushing with 86 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. Sophomore tight end Joe Sheridan led Navy in receiving with four receptions for 61 yards. Kranker had a solid performance, completing 8 of 17 for 142 yards and rushing for a touchdown. Wilson had a strong game for the Mids, tallying 49 yards on two receptions and a touchdown. Navy hosts its first home game of the season Friday, October 20 when the Mids take on Pennsylvania at Rip Miller Field at 7:30 pm.
