CENTERVILLE, Mass. –– Navy lacrosse defenseman and face-off specialist Chris Dingman (Jr./Deferiet, N.Y.) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Co-Defensive Player of the Week Monday.

Dingman, who shares this week’s honor with UMBC goalkeeper Tim Flanagan, is the third Midshipman to receive a weekly honor from the ECAC this year. Ben Bailey (So./Memphis, Tenn.) won Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors Feb. 25, while All-America candidate Jon Higdon (Sr./Edgewater, Md.) was the conference’s Defensive Player of the Week March 4.

“We are very excited that Chris was chosen to receive this honor,” said Navy (4-2, 2-1 ECAC) head coach Richie Meade, whose squad will take on Lehigh this afternoon at 4 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. “He is a guy who has worked extremely hard on his game over the last couple of years, and he has improved tremendously. (Assistant coach) Mark Goers has had a lot to do with his face-off success this year, and the leadership that Chris is showing right now is something we are going to need from him as we move into the meat of our schedule in April.”

Dingman continued his stellar junior season with arguably his best collegiate game last Saturday against Stony Brook. In the 11-10 triple overtime victory, the last of his 16 face-off victories on the afternoon set up the Mids’ game-winning possession. Scooping up his career-high ninth ground ball on the third-overtime draw, Dingman got the ball into team captain Eddie McKinnon (Sr./Davidsonville, Md.), who provided the feed on Greg Conklin’s (Jr./Syracuse, N.Y.) marker 32 seconds into the overtime.

On the season, Dingman has won 55 of his 91 draws, good for a .604 winning percentage. He also has scooped up 24 ground balls, ranking second on the team behind Conklin (26).
