ECAC Lacrosse League Names Seth DiNola Its Defensive Player of the Week

CENTREVILLE, Mass. — Navy sophomore goalkeeper Seth DiNola (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) was the named the ECAC Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Week announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Monday’s announcement marks the first week of the ECAC Lacrosse League’s weekly awards in which it honors the offensive, defensive and rookie of the week. Joining DiNola in this week’s list of honorees were offensive player of the week Kevin Leveille of Massachusetts and rookie of the week Greg Havalchak of Rutgers.

DiNola put together one of the most impressive performances of his young career in Navy’s four-overtime victory over ninth-ranked North Carolina Friday night in Annapolis. He stopped a career-high 12 shots in the cage, including one in each of the last-two overtime periods. He saved the Mids from defeat by stopping a one-on-one, point-blank shot by the Tar Heels in the fourth overtime period.

“Seth has steadily improved throughout the year,” said Navy head coach Richie Meade. “He handled the pressure of a pretty big game very well. It speaks a lot for him to give up goals on the first-two shots of the game and come back to hold off Carolina.”

The first-year starter owns a 3-0 record and is allowing 6.38 goals per game. Meanwhile, he has produced a 55.8 save percentage in games against Marist, No. 19 Ohio State and No. 9 North Carolina.
