Navy Men's Gymnastics Team Places Second at USA Collegiate Championship
Links associated with this release: DAVIS, Calif. - The Navy gymnastics team recorded a second-place finish at USA Collegiate Championship in Davis, Calif., Friday afternoon. The top eight finishers in each event advanced to compete in the individual event finals, slated for Saturday at 4 p.m. (EST). "This was one of our better meets this year," Navy assistant coach Craig Holt said. "I am really happy with their performances. We could have done a little bit better, but I am excited about the job our guys did." Navy posted a score of 202.950 to finish second behind William & Mary in the team competition. The Tribe won the team competition with a score of 204.800, while UC Santa Barbara placed third (202.550), Air Force fourth (201.625), and Springfield College fifth (194.700). Dan Finnegan (Jr./Richmond, Va.) came up short in the all-around, finishing second with a score of 51.05. Curtis Haines from Southern Connecticut State won the all-around title, posting a score of 51.525. Navy's Joe Brading (So./Sugar Land, Texas) posted a score of 50.15 to finish eighth in the all-around competition, while Drew Barker (Fr./Kennewick, Wash.) finished 19th with a score of 47.65. Finnegan qualified for the individual finals in four out of six events, taking the top spot on the rings with a score of 8.85. Finnegan tied for third on the high bar (8.65), tied for fourth on the pommel horse (8.60) and tied for sixth on the floor exercise (8.70) with Brading to qualify for the individual event final. In addition to the floor exercise, Brading qualified on the parallel bars, tying for seventh with a score of 8.55. Brading tied teammate Andy Helchinger (Jr./Stockton, Calif.) on the vault with a score of 9.05. Team captain Tripp Glasgow (Jr./Orlando, Fla.) posted a score of 8.40 on the high bar, tying for eighth to join Brading, Finnegan and Helchinger in the individual event final Saturday.
