No. 15 Gymnastics Places Fifth at ECAC Championship

Springfield, Mass. - The 15th-ranked Navy gymnastics team placed fifth out of eight teams with a score of 202.25 Saturday at the 2005 ECAC Championship in Springfield, Mass.
Army, ranked 11th in the country, won the team championship with a score of 214.025, while No. 14 Temple placed second by posting a score of 210.975.
In the individual all-around competition, senior captain Josh Blackman (Fayetteville, Ga.) placed 10th with a score of 49.65. Junior Ben Peterman (Amherst, Mass.) finished in 12th place (49.4) and freshman Christopher Tam (Draper, Utah) followed in 13th (49.2).
Blackman, Peterman and sophomore Sean Blackman (Fayetteville, Ga.) all advanced to the individual finals of their respective events.
Sean Blackman was the lone mid to place in the finals, as he finished in second place on the rings with a score of 9.4. Blackman, who entered the championship ranked 24th in the nation on the rings, did not compete in the ECAC event last season after sustaining an injury.
Josh Blackman competed in the floor exercise and on the rings in the finals, while Peterman competed on the pommel horse.
