Navy Gymnastics Claims Triangular; Blackman Takes Individual Title

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The No. 12-ranked Navy men's gymnastics team placed three gymnasts in the top five and defeated No. 16 Springfield College and No. 15 Illinois-Chicago in a three-team triangular Saturday afternoon. The Mids scored 206.950 points to outscore Illinois-Chicago's 205.800 and Springfield's 195.850. The wins move Navy's record to 7-5 overall.
The Mids got a strong performance from senior captain Josh Blackman (Fayetteville, Ga.). Blackman claimed the individual all-around title with a combined score of 51.850 to narrowly defeat junior Ben Peterman's (Amherst, Mass.) 51.450. Blackman boasted the top score in the high bars (8.800), the vault (9.225) and the still rings (9.500). Peterman had the meet's top score in the pommel horse (8.900), and was second in the floor exercise (9.100). All told, the Mids had nine competitors place in the top three of their respective discipline.
Navy will be in action next on March 6, when it travels to William & Mary. Action is slated to get underway at 1:00 p.m.
