Weather Plays Havoc With NCAA Men's Golf West Regional

AUBURN, Wash.-For the third straight day weather has played havoc with the NCAA Men’s Golf West Regional. Play was suspended on Saturday due to lightning and it was not known as of 9:15 p.m. whether play would continue.

Navy, seeded 25th in the tournament, was in 23rd place when play was stopped. The Mids had completed only nine holes and were 11-over par on the day and 53 over for the tournament. The Mids were ahead of Austin Peay (+58), Oral Roberts (+63), Central Connecticut State (+74) and Loyola (+103) and trailed Xavier and California by just one stroke for 21st place.

Individually, Brian Crum was one-over par after nine holes and one-over for the tournament, which was good for 16th place, nine shots back of the leader, Michael Letzig of New Mexico. Billy Hurley was three-over par after nine holes and four-over for the tournament. Hurley was tied for 30th place.

Navy’s Rocco Novellino was two-over after 13 holes and 25-over for the tournament (tied for 128th), Nick Rogers was five-over for the day and 26-over for the tournament (tied for 131st) and Joey Kistler was five-over after 13 holes and 34-over for the tournament (139th place).

The top teams had already completed play before the lightning delay, with UCLA winning the West Regional by shooting even par for the tournament. Arizona finished second (+1), while UNLV and Georgia tied for third (+7).
