Navy Competes At Rutherford Intercollegiate
Links associated with this release: UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - After 36 holes of play in day one of the Rutherford Intercollegiate held at the Penn State Blue Golf Course, the Navy golf team is in a three-way tie for fourth place with a 599 (300-299). The Mids, who are tied with Western Kentucky and Pennsylvania, are 20 strokes back from the leader and nine-time defending champion Penn State (294-285-579). Both James Madison and Ohio University, the second and third-place teams, respectively, are within reach for the Mids, as JMU owns a 597 and OU is just 1 stroke ahead of Navy at 598. Leading Navy is rookie Billy Hurley (Leesburg, Va.) who is in a six-way tie for ninth in the tournament. Hurley shot a 1-under par 71 in the first round and followed up with a 3-over par on the second 18 holes for a total of 146 (+2). Navy veterans Drew Craig (Marion, Ohio) and Kirk Glockner (Wilmington, N.C.) are tied for 35th with a 152, while junior Marty Keogh (Newark, Del.) and sophomore Brian Crum (Fairfax, Va.) are tied for 51st with a 157. Individually, Penn State's Andy Latowski is pacing the field with a 3-under par 141. While as a team, the Nittany Lions are nearly untouchable, Latowski's lead is just 1 stroke over George Mason's Craig Mason who produced a 2-under par 142 and Youngstown State's Jonah Karzmer is third with a 1-under par 143. Action at the Rutherford Intercollegiate concludes Sunday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m.
