Crew Sweeps Columbia
Links associated with this release: The Navy heavyweight crew team closed its regular season with a sweep of Columbia, Sunday morning in Mercer County, N.J. Navy posted an eight-second victory over Columbia in the first varsity race -– 5:53.7-6:01.9 –- to win the Maxwell Stevenson Cup. Navy then saw three of its boats finish ahead of the Lions in the junior varsity race. Navy’s second varsity boat crossed the line in a winning time of 6:10.5, three seconds ahead of Navy’s third varsity boat and six seconds in front of Navy’s second novice team. Columbia’s entry finished the 2,000-meter course in a time of 6:30.2. The Midshipmen closed the first dual meet between the two schools since 1993 with a five-second victory in the first novice race. "It was nice to end the season with a clean sweep," said Navy head coach Rick Clothier. "It was a tough week for our guys with finals before and after today, so I was very pleased with the effort they gave today. "We are now looking forward to having a good two weeks of preparation ahead of us for the Eastern Sprint Championship (May 19 in Worcester, Mass.)." Navy vs. Columbia Mercer County, N.J.
