Navy's heavyweight novice crew team was named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Crew of the Week, it was announced Wednesday by the ECAC. Navy joined the Yale women's varsity boat, as well as Hobart's heavyweight varsity boat in receiving this week's accolade.

Navy's crew defeated both Pennsylvania and Harvard at last Saturday's Adams Cup in Philadelphia, the first time Navy's novice entry has won the race in 15 seasons. Navy won the 2,000-meter race with a time of 5:54.0, finishing two seconds ahead of Harvard and seven seconds in front of Pennsylvania.

Making the victory even more impressive was that the Adams Cup was Navy's season opener, as well as the fatc that only two of the Navy rowers had any crew experience prior to this season.

Navy's novice coach, Chris Allsopp, said, "Navy's oarsmen showed more poise then I ever could have imagined."

Navy will be back on the water this weekend when the Mids compete in the George Washington Invite, Saturday on the Potomac River.
