Heavyweight Crew Splits Races

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - The Navy heavyweight crew team began its 2004 season by splitting a pair of races at the Windemere Collegiate Crew Classic, Saturday afternoon in Redwood City, Calif.
Navy began the day by seeing both its first and second varsity crews lose to Princeton, followed by both Navy boats defeating classic-host Stanford.
In the first varsity race against Princeton, the Tigers recorded a 5:46.72 to finish four seconds ahead of Navy's clocking of 5:50.81. Against the Cardinal, Navy was timed in 6:02 on the 2,000-meter course, while Stanford finished in 6:08.94.
In the second varsity races, Navy finished 7.1 seconds in back of Princeton and eight seconds ahead of Stanford.
Navy will conclude competition on the West Coast Sunday when the first varsity boat races against Penn and the second varsity shell faces North Carolina.
