Offshore Sailing Competes in Annapolis Yacht Club Fall Series



The Navy offshore sailing team posted strong performances at the Annapolis Yacht Club Fall Series.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Varsity Offshore Sailing Team competed in the final weekend of the Annapolis Yacht Club Fall Series this past Saturday, October 15.

In class AO, Columbia, skippered by junior Greg Nannig finished fifth overall coming on strong with a second place in the final race. Team Captain Greg Storer's Javelin crew finished seventh while senior skipper Chris Canales' Hellcat team was just behind in eighth.

In the J105 class, Joe Campbell led his team on Allegiance to final day scores of 12, 6, 12 out of 27 to take 15th overall in this highly competitive class.

In class A2, skipper Rebecca Islin guided her team aboard the Navy 44, Swift to a final day score line of 4, 6, 4 to finish an impressive fifth overall in its 24-boat division.

Last weekend, Navy took top honors at the 60th Annual Regata Escola Naval in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, against teams representing naval academies from the United Kingdon, Portugal, Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil and Chile. Navy Sailing sent a combined dinghy/offshore team composed of skipper Kevin McGill, Jeff Parker, Ryan Kimmel and Alexander Campbell.

Next up for the Varsity Offshore Sailing Team is the McMillan Cup next Saturday and Sunday, October 22 & 23.
