by Rob Huizenga, SXU Sports Information -

Lisa Ebel, who served as an assistant coach for the Saint Xavier University (Ill.)women's cross country program during the 2000 and 2002 seasons, has been hired by SXU as the head women's cross country coach and assistant coach of the newly formed men's and women's track and field team, which begins competition during the 2006-07 season.

Ebel was also a two-year member of the Cougar women's cross country team from
1998-99.

"We are really excited to have Lisa join our athletic department staff," said Saint Xavier Athletics Director Bob Hallberg.  "We think her enthusiasm and dedication will enable our new track program to get off to a quick start, while concentrating on the continued development of women's cross country."

Ebel has a wide variety of running experience at a number of different levels, including head coach of the Grissom Middle School conference championship team, captain of Hinsdale Central High School's cross country team, and a qualifier of the Boston Marathon.

The Orland Park native graduated magna cum laude from Saint Xavier in 2001 with a degree in elementary education and a minor in mathematics.  She currently is a seventh and eighth grade mathematics teacher at the I.E. Magnet School in Joliet, Illinois.
