Point Loma Nazarene University eases past William Penn University to claim Pool D at the 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship

                                                                                             

DECATUR, Ala. - Point Loma Nazarene University used a two-run double by Jill Schaeffer in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 Pool D decision over William Penn University Saturday (May 19) evening at the 2007 NAIA Softball National Championship at Wilson Morgan Park.

 


 

 

The No. 3 Sea Lions improved to 42-10 overall and wrapped up the No. 1 seed from Pool A with a perfect 4-0 record. PLNU will advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament that starts Monday (May 21). The No. 19 Statesmen ended their season at 46-14 and 1-3.

 

After Point Loma Nazarene scored in the fourth, the Statesman got a run back in the sixth on a Kimberly Coleman's RBI ground out but that was as close as they would get.

 

Melissa Gomez (5-2) pitched five inning of shutout softball in relief to earn the win, while Meghan Oden (30-8) took the loss.
