OLATHE, Kan. - Concordia University (Ore.) scored four unanswered goals to punch its ticket to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship Friday with a 4-1 victory over Oklahoma Christian University at the College Boulevard Activity Center in Olathe, Kan.
Oklahoma Christian, the No. 12 seed, took an early 1-0 lead when Stephanie Duncan scored an unassisted goal in the seventh minute. Concordia answered two and a half minutes later though on a Caitlin Verhofstadt goal at 8:55.
Concordia captured the lead it would not relinquish in the 37th minute when Jessica Ramback chipped a shot into the upper left corner of the goal to put the Cavaliers up 2-1.
In the second half, Jennifer Hughes scored her first goal of the season at the 57:46 mark off an assist from Verhofstadt, increasing the Concordia advantage to 3-1. The Cavaliers closed out the scoring in the 74th minute as Justine Pronovost headed in a cross from Breeanne Baker for her 16th goal of the year.
OCU ends its season with a 17-2-2 record, while Concordia improved to 19-1-2.
The Cavaliers will now face fourth-seeded Houghton College Saturday night in the quarterfinals beginning at 5:30 p.m.
