ATHERTON, Calif. - This summer, The California Camp, one of Wrestling's most prestigious camps, washeld on the campus of Menlo College, home of the 2004 National NAIA national runner-up. The college is located in beautiful Atherton California, mid-way between San Jose and San Francisco. Teams as well as individualswere welcome to attend. The camp washeld July 5th-9th and featured coaches and wrestlers from around the country.
This year's staff included World Champion Zeke Jones, whowas inattendance each day, Pac 10 Champion Marco Sanchez of Arizona State, three-time NCAA Champion and 2005 Outstanding Wrestler Greg Jones of the University of West Virginia, Arizona State Head Coach Thom Ortiz, Menlo College Head Coach Keith Spataro.
This year's wrestling camp focused on all aspects of team competition. Teamsreceived instruction andwrestled in live wrestling competition against other teams.Thosenot on a teamwereplaced on one to wrestle. Thecampbenefittedbeginning wrestlers as well as advanced wrestlersand helped give instruction to break through to the next level of competition. Special techniques, tactics, nutrition and strength & conditioning werepracticed and discussed along with a training system specially designed for the committed wrestlertrying to improve in all areas.
