MOBILE, Ala. -
Eight teams moved into second-round competition during the opening day of the 2007 NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship Tournament in Mobile, Ala., as three teams won by 9-0 shut-out scores and one survived a furious comeback to advance 5-4.
The day began with three quick shut-out wins, as Point Loma Nazarene (Calif.), Benedictine (Kan.) and Bethel (Tenn.) stormed into the second round with 9-0 wins, while the nail-biter of the day belonged to Graceland (Iowa), who survived a Cumberland (Tenn.) comeback in singles play to win 5-4 and move on.
Berry (Ga.) made quick work of Oklahoma Baptist on opening day, knocking off the Bison 8-1, while Webber International (Fla.) and Union (Ky.) moved into day two by winning 6-3 in the opening round. Lee (Tenn.) rounded out the unseeded qualifiers in the second round by beating Walsh (Ohio), 7-2.
