MONTGOMERY, Ala.-- Just days after top-ranked Lindsey Wilson College (Ky.) set a new national record for goals in a game (26), the Blue Raiders faced a rematch with the team that eliminated them from the 2004 NAIA National Championship Tournament.
Lindsey Wilson suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of #3-ranked Auburn University Montgomery (Ala.), 2-1. Lindsey Wilson has rested at the top of the national ratings since the week of September 13.
Both teams scored in the first half as Lindsey Wilson's Mikokheli Dube was able to push across a deflection from a previous shot in the 26th minute. Five minutes later, AUM's Hjuortur Hjartarson scored on a penalty kick in the and sent the match into halftime even at one.
Hjartarson, AUM's leading scorer, split the defenders in the box during the 79th minute but was fouled. Hjartarson found the back of the net on the penalty kick for the win.
AUM improved to 16-1-0 this year as Lindsey Wilson dropped to 13-1-0. AUM will end the regular season Tuesday, October 25 at the University of Mobile at 7 p.m. The Blue Raiders will face Brescia University (Ky.) on the same day.
