Lambuth 's Vic Wallace announced his retirement after 27 years as a head coach

Nov. 15, 2007

Jackson TN, - After completing the 2007 season, Head Football Coach Vic Wallace is announcing his retirement from coaching.  Wallace will remain with the University in the capacity of Special Assistant to the President for Athletics.

In this position, Wallace will assist in fundraising and increasing the visibility of all Lambuth athletic programs.

Of the new opportunity, Vic Wallace said, "I have been offered and accepted a position with the University as Special Assistant to the President for Athletics.  Having the opportunity to work for Lambuth and with Dr. Zuker to move Lambuth into the future is a compliment.  I love Lambuth.  I have invested nearly a quarter of my life in Lambuth.  I am excited about Dr. Zuker's vision of what Lambuth can become.  I will be working directly with Dave McCulley in Athletic Development.  Dave and I work very well together and I am looking forward to this new venture.  Change is part of everyone's life.  Change brings new ideas and new energy.  Change will be good for Lambuth and change will be good for me.  My passion is to coach football and should an option present itself, I would have to consider it strongly."

Dr. R. Fred Zuker, President of Lambuth University commented that "Vic has taken the Lambuth Football program to national prominence and is one of the most respected coaches and teachers of the game, not only in the NAIA, but at all levels of football.  It is with regret that I learned of Vic's decision to retire, but his willingness to remain with the University as Special Assistant to my office will greatly enhance Lambuth's overall athletic programs."

Coach Vic Wallace just completed his fifteenth year as the head football coach at Lambuth University.  At Lambuth his teams have had outstanding success and an overall mark of 98-64-1. In 27 years as a head coach his overall mark was 176-109-5.  Coach Wallace's teams have won eight conference championships and made the playoffs 10 times.  He was named Conference Coach of the Year seven times and was named the National Regional Coach of the Year three times.  During his tenure at Lambuth, his teams won four conference championships and made six appearances in the NAIA playoffs ('94- semifinals, '95- semifinals, '96- quarterfinals, '99- quarterfinals,'00-first round, `03- first round).

Before coming to Lambuth University, Coach Wallace was the head coach at the University of St. Thomas (1986-1992) and at William and Jewell College (1981-1986).
