June 17, 2004 College Of Dupage, Mohawk Valley Community College And Sierra College Win Inaugural Pepsi NATYCAA Awards For Athletic Program Excellence
Pepsi-Cola North America in conjunction with the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators is pleased to announce the winners of the inaugural Pepsi NATYCAA Awards for Program Excellence in Two-Year College Athletics.
The College of DuPage (Glen Ellyn, Illinois) won the first place award for the NJCAA Scholarship Division scoring 161.5 points. Barton County Community College (Great Bend, Kansas) finished second in the hotly contested competition with 159.5 points. Mesa Community College (Mesa, Arizona) finished third with 137 points.
Mohawk Valley Community College (Utica, New York) led the way in the NJCAA Non-Scholarship Division with 123.5 points. SUNY Morrisville College (Morrisville, New York) finished second with 102 points and SUNY Delhi College (Delhi, New York) finished third with 81 points.
Sierra College (Rocklin, California) led the way in the State Associations Division scoring with 159.5 points. Mount San Antonio College (Walnut, California) finished second with 155 points. Long Beach City College (Long Beach California) finished third with a total of 135.5 points.
The Pepsi NATYCAA Awards were presented at the Pepsi NATYCAA Awards Luncheon in Dallas, Texas on June 11, 2004. Terry Ryan, Senior Vice President of Sales for Pepsi-Cola North America and Keynote Speaker Dick Vitale were on hand to present the awards to the award winning colleges and their representatives. Dr. Earl Reed, Director of Athletics at the College of DuPage, Gary Broadhurst, Director of Athletics at Mohawk Valley CC and John Volek, AD at Sierra College were all on hand to receive the first place awards for their institutions.
In addition to the beautiful awards, the top three colleges in each division will receive donations from the Pepsi NATYCAA Awards Program earmarked for the general scholarship funds of their respective institutions. 1st place awards winners will receive a $2,500 donation and second and third place winners will each receive a $1,000 donation.
The Pepsi NATYCAA Awards were designed to recognize and reward overall program excellence at the two-year college level as well as promote all programs in all sports on an equal basis. Member colleges are allowed to use their top five men's and women's sports for scoring in the program. Scoring for this program is based on the highest level of competition at which the member colleges participate.
NATYCAA is the professional organization of two-year college athletic administrators and membership is open to all two-year institutions from throughout the country.
