MINORITY OPPORTUNITIES ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION SUPPORTS the FIRING of DON IMUS

April 13, 2007

Kansas City, MO - Stan Johnson, Executive Director of the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA), and its board of directors' were as appalled about the Don Imus incident as is the rest of America. Many organizations, political figures and high profile individuals weighed in on his deplorable comments. We are happy today because collectively we stood together to make a change. The MOAA would also like to commend GM, Sprint/Nextel Proctor & Gamble, and other sponsors for also taking a stand in support of human decency. We believe further action is necessary for healing, prevention of future incidents and growth. We are prepared to assist in finding solutions to this growing problem in our media, entertainment and sports industries.

The MOAA promotes equitable employment opportunities for minorities in the athletics industry through the exchange of ideas, the creation of networking opportunities and the advocation of an increase in employment for minorities in athletics administration positions at all levels of the sports industry. Our association also promotes cultivating a sports environment that supports the values necessary to accept aspiring professionals from all walks of life.
