Colorado State Inks Two Rams sign middle blocker from Colorado and South Dakota.
Nov. 13, 2003 FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Colorado State volleyball head coach Tom Hilbert today announced Mekana Barnes and Hillary White have signed national letters of intent to attend Colorado State. Both will enroll in the fall of 2004. Barnes, a 6- middle blocker from Highlands Ranch, Colorado and Thunderridge High School, becomes the seventh Colorado player on the Rams roster. Barnes tallied 184 blocks this season, including seven double-figure matches for the Grizzlies. She also had 165 kills in the 66 games during the 2003 season. The Grizzlies finished 11-1 in Continental Conference play and were 21-5 overall. Barnes also plays for Front Range Volleyball Club -- the top club team in Denver. "Mekana is an extremely physical player," Hilbert said. "She's still a little raw around the edges, but has the potential to be one of the most dynamic players in Colorado State volleyball history." White is also a middle blocker, is 6-0, and hails from Aberdeen, South Dakota and Central High School. White and her Aberdeen Central teammates won the District 3AA tournament so they return to the state volleyball championship Nov. 20-22 to defend their title. Her freshman season, White attended Roncalli High School -- the same high school of former Ram track & field record holder Meg Larson. White had 14 kills and eight digs in the District 3AA Championship match.
"We are very excited to have signed the caliber of player we are getting
with Hillary," Hilbert said. "Not only because of her volleyball
accomplishments, but also because she is a great competitor, a hard
worker and she will fit very well into the CSU volleyball culture."
