COUGARS ONE OF FOUR UNDEFEATED TEAMS IN THE NATION TCU'S TALAYA WHITFIELD TIES MWC DIGS RECORD MWC IN THE NCAA STATISTICS Individually, BYU's Lindsy Hartsock is second in the nation in hitting percentage (.470), Colorado State's Dre Downs is 13th in blocks per game (1.57), while Utah's Emillie Toone is 28th in blocks per game (1.46) and BYU's Lauren Richards is 25th in assists per game (12.95). QUICK HITS Air Force -- Air Force posted an 0-2 record in conference play last week...The Falcons are 0-10 in conference play this season and have lost 24 consecutive league matches overall...Only three Falcon players tallied a positive hitting percentage vs. Wyoming last Saturday...Senior Kristin Hamlett had her best outing since returning from her injury vs. Colorado State, ringing up 13 kills, two aces and three blocks...She has 1,080 career kills, 12 shy of cracking the all-time Air Force career kills list...Senior Carly Siefken is fourth on the AFA Division I single-season assists list with 884, surpassing her previous single-season best of 805 from last year. BYU -- BYU went 3-0 last week, including a 2-0 in MWC play...The Cougars have swept seven of their last eight matches...The Cougars are now 18-0, which is their best start to a season since 1977 when they started the season with 23 straight wins...BYU is one of four remaining undefeated teams in the nation...BYU moved up to 13th in the current CSTV/AVCA Top-25 Poll, their highest ranking since being ranked 13th the week of Oct. 15, 2001...Junior Lindsy Hartsock is currently second in the nation in hitting percentage (.470) and has recorded efficiencies of .500 or better in 10 matches on the year, including a season-best .800 percentage vs. TCU on Sept. 30...Sophomores Chelsea Goodman and Erica Lott rank 1-2 in kills per game in the conference...Goodman averages 4.09 kills per game, while Lott averages 4.00...Lott has recorded double-digit kills in every match this season...Senior Lauren Evans leads the MWC and is 25th in the nation with 12.95 assists per game. Colorado State -- CSU swept Air Force and lost in four games to New Mexico in MWC play last week...The loss to the Lobos last Saturday was only the ninth conference match loss for the Rams since joining the MWC in 1999, and the first loss to UNM since the 1994...Senior Tess Rogers had 17 kills last week, giving her 1,398 for her career which is currently fourth on the all-time MWC career kills chart with 1,398...Rogers is 28 kills short of passing former Ram teammate Courtney Cox for third place on the list...In conference-only matches, Rogers is the only active player ranked in the top 10, ranking third with 594 kills...CSU has won 73 straight matches when taking a 2-0 lead, and as members of the MWC are 148-1 overall, losing only to Utah in the 2001 MWC Tournament championship match. New Mexico -- New Mexico went 1-1 in MWC play last week, losing to Wyoming in five games and beating Colorado State in four games...The Lobos' win over the Rams was their first since Nov. 12, 1994, a span of 18 matches...Senior Nicole Ryan tallied a double-double (13 kills, 12 digs) vs. CSU, while freshman Sarah Kwasigroch dished out 32 of UNM's 33 assists vs. CSU...Junior Kelly Therkelsen continues to move up the all-time Lobo charts for block assists...She now sits in fifth place with 224, and needs 22 to move into fourth, 26 to move into third and 29 to move into second. San Diego State -- The Aztecs went 0-2 last week, losing league matches to then-15th ranked BYU and Utah...Senior Lindsey Noll led the Aztecs with 10 kills and a .381 hitting percentage vs. the Cougars, but was held without a block for the first time this season...As a team, BYU outblocked SDSU, 14-4, for the match...Junior Melanie Greene notched her ninth double-double of the season vs. Utah, collecting 12 kills and 12 digs...Sophomore Aime Cordeiro notched 31 digs vs. the Utes, marking her second 30-plus dig performance in 2005...She leads the MWC in digs with an average of 4.99 per game...In MWC play, Cordeiro averages 5.28 digs per game which also ranks first. TCU -- TCU went 2-0 in non-conference play last week, beating Prairie View A&M and Texas Pan-American, respectively...The Horned Frogs recorded a school record 19.0 total blocks vs. UTPA, while sophomore Talaya Whitfield tied the MWC all-time single-match record for digs (35)...With 81 assists last week, freshman Nirelle Hampton currently sits at 887 for her career which is fourth all-time in the TCU record books...Junior Anna Vaughn currently leads the MWC in service aces per game (0.51), is third in the MWC in kills per game (3.95) and fourth in hitting percentage (.312). UNLV -- UNLV went 0-2 last week in conference play, losing to Utah and No. 13 BYU...After a season-high four match winning streak, the Rebels are currently on a season-high three match losing streak...The Rebels had season-high 45 hitting errors and hit a season low .038 vs. BYU last Saturday...Freshman Melody Nua currently has a team-best 904 assists (11.59 per game), which ranks second in the MWC...Sophomore Jada Walker collected 26 digs vs. the Aztecs, giving her 741 for her career, which is fourth on the all-time UNLV digs charts. Utah -- Utah went 2-0 in conference play last week, sweeping UNLV and beating San Diego State in four games, moving from fifth place to third place in the conference standings...The Utes are 9-0 on Crimson Court this season and have not lost at home since a 3-1 loss to No. 1 Hawaii on Nov. 24, 2004...Utah has reeled off 10 straight wins since that loss, including a 3-2 victory over then-No. 17 Santa Clara earlier this season...The youthful Ute frontline continued its dominance last weekend, as three players averaged better than 1.50 blocks per game...Sophomore Emillie Toone led the way with 2.00 blocks per game, followed by freshmen Lori Baird (1.71 blocks per game) and Airial Salvo (1.57)...Since taking over the starting libero position six matches ago, senior Danielle Leichliter has averaged 3.88 digs per game...Last weekend, she averaged 5.57 digs per game, including a 22-dig outing vs. San Diego State. Wyoming -- Wyoming went 2-0 in conference play last week, upsetting New Mexico, 3-2, and sweeping Air Force to snap a 10-game losing skid...Freshman Kelsey Loop recorded a career-high 17 kills, along with three block assists vs. the Lobos...Head coach Pat Stangle is now 3-0 vs. both Air Force and New Mexico for his career...Junior Andrea Seele had a season high 14 kills vs. the Lobos, while freshman setter Tasha Weishahn recorded 61 assists, falling one short of her career high...Sophomore Rachel Smith collected her 13th and 14th double-digit kill matches last weekend with 19 vs. New Mexico and 10 against Air Force...She also recorded 11 digs vs. the Lobos for her seventh double-double of the season. |
