Colorado State Volleyball Defeats Air Force Junior outside hitter Tess Rogers records her 1,000 career kill and a season-high 20 kills.

U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo. -- Recording her 1,000 career kill and a season-high 20 kills on the evening, Colorado State junior outside hitter Tess Rogers led the ninth-ranked CSU volleyball team to a four-game victory over the Air Force Academy Falcons this evening, 30-14, 30-23, 28-30, 30-22 to improve to 16-2 on the year and 8-1 in Mountain West Conference play. The Falcons fall to 4-14 overall and 0-9 in league play.
Rogers was one of four Rams in double figures in kills, with senior
middle blocker Bri Frech recording 14, junior outside hitter Casey Bauer
tallying 12 and junior right side hitter Dre Downs killing 10 in just
three games. Rogers also tied her career-high with 10 digs to lead the
Rams and both Frech and senior middle blocker Katie Jo Shirley-Cahoon
recorded four blocks. Senior setter Melissa Courtney became one of just
four setters in school history to record 4,000 assists as she hit the
mark midway through the match and now has 4022. Rogers becomes the 14th
player in CSU history to surpass 1,000 kills and now has 1,016.
"I put the game three loss on my shoulders," said Colorado State head coach Tom Hilbert. "I was playing with the lineup and had us play without a libero (sophomore Kristen Karlik) to let a lot of players work on their defense. I also wanted Tonya (Mokelki) in the lineup a lot tonight and rest both Dre and Katie Jo." Air Force was led by junior middle blocker Kristin Hamlett with 14 kills and Rebecca Gallegos with 10 kills. Libero Jenalee Burke led the match with 14 digs and Brittany Oligney came off the bench to lead the Falcons with four blocks. Colorado State returns to action on Tuesday evening in a non-conference match against Denver. The Rams will then host San Diego State and UNLV on Friday and Saturday, respectively. All three matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. |
