SDSU Women's Tennis Makes 17th NCAA Tournament Appearance Mountain West Conference champions play Fresno State in first round in Tempe, Ariz.
April 30, 2003 SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team earned its 17th NCAA Tournament appearance in school history on Wednesday when the NCAA announced that the Aztecs would play Fresno State in the first round of the national tournament in Tempe, Ariz. on Saturday, May 10. The Aztecs, which posted a 22-5 record this season and are currently ranked 27th nationally, advanced to the 64-team field for the seventh time in the last eight years. SDSU will play 20th-ranked Fresno State (16-7) at 8 a.m. MST/PDT followed by the host school Arizona State (9-10) and Illinois-Chicago (17-6) at noon MST/PDT. The winners will meet on Sunday at 10 a.m. MST/PDT for the opportunity to advance to the round of 16 in Gainesville, Fla., on May 15. San Diego State has won four straight matches 17 of its last 19 matches. This past weekend the Aztecs claimed their first Mountain West Conference title with a 4-1 victory over Brigham Young. San Diego State is led by two-time conference player of the year Silvia Tornier and three-time all-league performer Lindsey Hedberg.
