No. 40 Aztecs Edge Rams In Tennis

CSU moves to 12-7 overall on the season and 2-5 in Mountain West play.

The No. 40 San Diego State Aztecs edged Colorado State by a 4-3 score in Mountain West tennis action Sunday in Fort Collins. Due to heavy snowfall in the area, the match was moved indoors to Miramont Sport Center.

San Diego State started the day with a sweep in doubles play but trailed the Rams 2-1 after Emily Kirchem claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles and Anne Andersen took a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory at the No. 3 spot.

The Aztecs battled back and took a hard fought No. 1 match when Aleysa Vidov downed CSU's Dasha Zhurin 6-3, 6-7 (3), 6-3. SDSU then claimed victory at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions to seal the win before CSU's Alexandra Paganetti claimed a tie-breaker victory at No. 6.

"I'm more proud of the team than I have ever been," commented head coach Jon Messick. "Every person played well today. I think we're playing at the highest competitive level that we've ever played at Colorado State."

CSU moves to 12-7 overall on the season and 2-5 in Mountain West play. The Rams host the University of Denver Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Rolland Moore Racquet Complex.
