BYU Announces Signings Of Four Recruits

The BYU softball team has announced the signings of four high school recruits.

Dec. 4, 2006

PROVO, Utah - The BYU softball team has announced the signings of four high school recruits. By signing the National Letters of Intent during November's early signing period, the four players have committed to attend BYU next season.

Paige Affleck, a pitcher out of Canyon View High School (Cedar City, Utah); middle infielders Jessica Purcell from Nogales High School (La Puenta, Calif.) and Kristin Delahoussaye from Sierra Vista High School (Las Vegas); and outfielder Caschjen Davis of Imperial High School (Imperial, Calif.) will join the Cougars for the 2007-08 season.

"We're excited to have all four of them," said BYU softball head coach Gordon Eakin. "Paige is extremely competitive and possesses all the tools to excel at this level. Jessica, Kristen and Caschjen possess excellent speed, power and a great knowledge of the game."

Affleck, who Eakin says has the potential to be one of the top pitchers in the country, was named by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association as a 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA High School American West All-Region pitcher. In 2005, Affleck went undefeated in region play leading her high school to the regional championship. She posted an ERA of 0.25 during the 2005 season and an ERA of 0.37 in 2006, a year in which her team finished the season as regional co-champions and 3A State Champions. Affleck recently joined 18U Gold Victory USA out of Orange County, Calif., one of the premier gold teams in the country

Purcell swings a powerful bat. The three-time first team all-leaguer has produced batting averages of .425, .409 and .475 her freshman, sophomore and junior years, respectively. She will also provide speed for BYU. Purcell, who also plays for 18U So Cal Mirage, has stolen no fewer than 25 bases per season each year of high school.

Delahoussaye was named the 2005 Nevada 4A MVP of the Southwest Division. She was also named to the All-Southwest Division and All-Sunset Region first teams. Delahoussaye's high school team has won its regional championship three consecutive years (2004-2006) and took second in the state in 2005. The right-handed speedster also plays for 18U Las Vegas Rebels.

Davis brings a.537 batting average in 2006 to the Cougars. The 2006 Division 4 San Diego Section Player of the Year and All-Valley League Player of the Year, Davis has helped lead her high school to three consecutive CIF Division 4 Championship games, winning the championship in 2005. In addition to playing outfield, Davis plays shortstop and third base for the 18U Gold San Diego Breakers.

Eakin said the four players will fit in nicely with the team and continue to keep BYU competing at the highest possible level.
