Mary Yori Named Softball Coach At Colorado State

Yori replaces Olympic hopeful Teri Klement.

June 27, 2000

Fort Collins, Colo./June 19, 2000 - Colorado State University athletics director Tim Weiser today announced the appointment of Mary Yori as the Rams' new women's softball coach.

"I am very excited about the opportunity at Colorado State," said Yori. "I'm anxious to get going and continue to have the program move forward. I believe that everyone associated with our team is dedicated toward working hard and having the program continue to succeed."

Yori was the head coach at the University of Nebraska-Omaha from 1988-99, and guided the program to 10 consecutive NCAA Regional Tournament appearances. UNO won the North Central Conference championship in 1994, `95, `96, and `97.

She guided UNO to four consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division II national tournament from 1994-97. The team was runnerup in 1996, finished third in 1994 and `97, and fifth in 1995.

Yori brings an impressive 459-158 head coaching record with her to Colorado State, and a winning percentage of 74.3, the fifth highest figure in NCAA Division II history. Twice, she was named NCAA Division II coach of the year, in 1994 and `96 by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

"We are extremely happy to have Mary join our program. She is a proven head coach and brings a great deal of experience and knowledge to our softball program."

Prior to becoming head coach at UNO, Yori was an assistant coach for four seasons at Creighton University. She also played collegiately at Creighton, earning All-American honors three times and led the Bluejays to the College World Series 1980-82.

Yori succeeds Teri Klement, who resigned last month to continue to pursue a roster spot on the 2000 U.S. Olympic softball team which will compete in Sydney, Australia later this summer. Yori begins her duties at Colorado State June 20.
