2007 All-Mountain West Softball Team Announced

BYU senior Jodi Norton was named Player of the Year, while UNLV sophomore Christie Robinson captured the Pitcher of the Year award.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Mountain West All-Conference softball awards as selected by the league's six head coaches were announced today. BYU senior Jodi Norton was named Player of the Year, while UNLV sophomore Christie Robinson captured the Pitcher of the Year award. Colorado State's Ashley Munoz garnered Freshman of the Year acclaim and the Rebels' Lonni Alameda collected her second MWC Coach of the Year honor.

Norton, a Mesa, Ariz., native, led the league in four offensive categories to help her team to its third 40-win season. She tallied a league-leading 23 home runs, a slugging percentage of .772, 56 RBI and 132 total bases. She currently ranks fourth in the nation for home runs, 18th in RBI and 13th for slugging percentage. Norton also set a school record for home runs in a season with 23 this year. Defensively, she collected 101 assists from the short-stop position.

Robinson, from Clinton, Wash., went 5-0 in conference play, including three complete games. She finished third in MWC play in ERA (2.24), fourth in wins (5), seventh for innings pitched (50.0) and eighth for opposing batting average (.278). Robinson was also named the MWC Player of the Week three times this season.

Munoz, a Diamond Bar, Calif., product, is first in the Mountain West in slugging percentage (1.000) and total bases (56), and second for on-base percentage (.528) and home runs (9). She also ranks third for batting average (.429), RBI (18) and doubles (5). Overall, she leads Colorado State in slugging percentage (.699) and home runs (14). As a freshman, Munoz started 45-of-50 games for the Rams.

The 20-member all-conference team includes five players from regular-season champion BYU and Colorado State, four players from San Diego State, three players from UNLV, two from Utah and one from New Mexico.
