MWC Softball Players of the Week

BYU's Quiocho and UNLV's Robinson honored.

May 8, 2007

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU freshman Angeline Quiocho and sophomore right-hander Christie Robinson have been named Mountain West Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.

Quiocho, a Walnut, Calif., native, hit .600 and stole four bases throughout the week to give her a team-best 15 stolen bases on the year. Quiocho also notched a hit and a run in every game this week, leading BYU to a 4-1 record. Against Utah Valley State, Quiocho went a perfect 3-for-3 and had one RBI. With runners at the corners the freshman, who recorded two stolen bases on the night, perfectly executed a bunt allowing a run to score. She was also on the throwing end of two double-plays against the Wolverines. In game one against New Mexico, Quiocho gave BYU a two-run lead in the third inning. After stealing third base, Quiocho scored on a sacrifice fly to right field. She also scored the winning run in game two vs. the Lobos.

Robinson, hailing from Clinton, Wash., pitched a complete-game shutout on Sunday against the San Diego State Aztecs. Robinson allowed only four hits in the win. She pitched herself out of jams and did not allow the Aztecs to score, although they left eight runners on base throughout the game. In the seventh inning, she fielded a squeeze bunt attempt and got the runner out at home. With the bases loaded, she induced a 3-2-4 double play to end the contest.
