BYU's Larkin Receives All-America Nod

Larkin marks only the sixth Cougar to receive this prestigious recognition.

Dec. 5, 2006

PROVO,Utah - Sophomore Katie Larkin was named to the NSCAA/adidas All-America Third Team, the National Soccer Collegiate Athletic Association announced Monday.

This is a huge honor and was definitely unexpected," Larkin said. "I understand what a big deal this is, and I'm just really excited. There are a lot of girls on our team that deserve this, so I feel really honored."

Larkin led the Cougar squad with six goals and five assists on the season for a combined 17 points. She also helped propel BYU to a 13-2-3 overall record, which included two victories over Top-25 opponents. BYU was also ranked as high as No. 9 nationally midway through the 2006 campaign.

For her standout play during 2006, Larkin received numerous accolades throughout the season. On Sept. 18, she was recognized as the Mountain West Conference Co-Player of the Week for scoring the game winners in both of BYU's weekend games against Pacific and Utah State. She was also named the National Player of the Week by Top Drawer Soccer, placed on the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week and honored as part of the Soccer America Honor Roll, before being named the Offensive MVP of the Pac-10/Mountain West Challenge.

For the second year in a row, she was also named to the MWC All-Conference First Team.

Larkin marks only the sixth Cougar to receive this prestigious recognition. Shauna Rohbock, Maren Hendershot, Staci Reynolds, Aleisha Rose and Jaime Rendich Beck previously received the award.
