MWC Players of the Week Announced

Jouglet and Scheider garner weekly honors.

Oct. 20, 2003

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State junior defender Noelle Jouglet and Wyoming senior goalkeeper Lori Scheider have been named Mountain West Conference Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. This is the first career weekly honor for Jouglet and the second for Scheider.

Jouglet, a La Mesa, Calif., product, scored SDSU's lone goal in its 1-0 upset victory over BYU (ranked 12th in the nation by Soccer America Magazine), giving the Cougars their first conference loss in two years and giving the Aztecs their first win over BYU since the 1999 season. In the 26th minute of the match, Jouglet headed Shannon McBride's free kick past Cougar goalie Ashley Smith for the game-winner. She also helped SDSU's defense hold BYU's offense, which averages 18.69 shots a match, to just 10 shots in the contest.

Scheider collected two shutouts last weekend, helping the Cowgirls to victories over New Mexico and Air Force and pushing their MWC record to 4-0 on the season. On the week, she logged 180 minutes and had 13 saves. In Wyoming's 1-0 win over the Lobos, Scheider collected fives saves, including a stop of a UNM breakaway goal attempt late in the match to preserve the win. She followed that with an eight save effort in the Cowgirls 2-0 victory over Air Force. Scheider has recorded four shutouts in Wyoming's last five matches and has allowed just one goal in conference play so far this season. On the season, she leads the MWC in saves (108), saves per game (7.71), shutouts (six) and shutouts per game (0.43).
