COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico junior Kailin Downs was named Mountain West Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for September after capturing the individual title and leading the Lobos to a tournament victory at the 25th Annual Branch Law Firm Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. The 2002-03 Conference Women's Golfer of the Year opened the season tying for 48th-place at the NCAA Fall Preview in Opelika, Alabama. Downs shot a 54-hole total of 231 (83-75-73), helping the Lobos finish 9th out of a field that consisted of the top 20 teams in the country. At the Dick McGuire Invitational, she tied the 54-hole course record with a seven-under 212 (70-68-74), en route to her first collegiate individual title. Downs' 36-hole score of 138 also set a new course record as did the Lobos' overall team score of 871. This is Downs' fourth golfer of the month award of her career.
