San Diego State Women's Golf Coach Resigns

Falar tenure ends after NCAA Regional appearance

May 22, 2001

SAN DIEGO - Diana Falar has announced her resignation after 10 years as the San Diego State women's golf coach.

Falar has worked in the SDSU athletic department in various capacities for 15 years. She was named head coach in 1992. The program was dropped after that year and reinstated prior to the 1993-94 season, with Falar returning as head coach.

"Having the chance to work with young people at San Diego State and helping them to form their futures has been one of the best experiences of my life," said Falar. "Now, I am looking forward to the opportunity to spend more time with my family."

The Aztecs have made two NCAA appearances as a team (1999, 2001) and several individual appearances under Falar. This season San Diego State turned in six top-three finishes, including winning the Heather Farr Memorial Invitational in Denver and placing second at the Mountain West Conference Championship.

"We are grateful to Diana for her efforts," said Executive Director of Athletics Rick Bay. "She feels it is time for a change and we support her decision. Her last team at San Diego State was a strong one and we hope we can build on her accomplishments."

San Diego State will begin an immediate search for Falar's replacement.
