UNM Heads West for NCAA Regional Competition

Event to be held May 9-11 at Stanford University.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The University of New Mexico women's golf team was selected to participate in the NCAA Division I Women's Golf West Regional, May 9-11 hosted by Stanford University. The Lobos recent Mountain West Conference Championship title automatically qualified UNM for postseason competition.

There will be eight teams from each region who will advance to the 2002 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships hosted by the University of Washington on May 20-25.

New Mexico is one of three Mountain West schools invited to the West Regional. Joining the Lobos in Stanford are Brigham Young and Colorado State.

The Lobos ranked No. 24 in the latest GolfWeek poll (released on Apr. 28) have a school record three tournament victories. New Mexico¹s team titles come at the 2001 Dick McGuire Invitational, the 2001 Hawai¹i Fall Invitational and the 2002 MWC Championships.

Under head coach Jackie Booth the Lobos have advanced to five straight NCAA regionals. Last season New Mexico advanced to the 2001 NCAA Championships where they placed 21st.

West Regional

The West regional will be played May 9-11 at Stanford Golf Course, Stanford, California, hosted by Stanford University. Conference automatic qualifiers are indicated in parenthesis next to the institution.
