Cougars Hot Entering MWC Championship The tournament will mark the last MWC event for senior All-American Carrie Summerhays.
April 22, 2002 PROVO, Utah - Coming off its best finish of the year at its regular season ending BYU Dixie Classic, the BYU women's golf team will compete in the third annual Mountain West Conference Championship, April 22-24 in Sunriver, Ore. The tournament will be hosted by Meadows Course, a par 71 course stretching over 6,089 yards. This marks the second year in a row the MWC Championship has been held at Meadows Course. The inaugural MWC Championship was held at Sunbrook Golf Course in St. George, Utah. The Cougars finished fourth at the Dixie Classic, and was led by April's MWC Player of the Month, freshman Natalie Newren, who placed a career-high eighth. The tournament will mark the last MWC event for senior All-American Carrie Summerhays. She is currently tied with former Cougar great Pam Miller with six individual crowns. Summerhays shot 11-over 224 at last year's MWC Championships, as she placed a team-high seventh. As a team, BYU finished fourth with a three round 900.
The competition will be a total of 54 holes with 18 holes played each day. Tee-off will be at 9 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Admission is free to all fans and media, but proper golf etiquette should be observed.
