Conference's Run in NCAA Men's Tennis Championship Ends All three Mtn. West singles players eliminated in second round.

Colorado Springs, Colo. Day two of the individual portion of the 2000 NCAA Division I Men¹s Tennis Championship hosted by the University of Georgia today, saw all three Mountain West Conference representatives eliminated in the second round of singles play. The event runs through Sunday, May 28 at the Dan Magill Tennis Center in Athens, Ga. San Diego State freshman Oliver Maiberger pushed the second set to a tie-breaker before losing to No. 5-seed Alex Kim of Stanford 6-3, 7-6 (4). San Diego State senior Alex Waske, suffered an upset at the hands of Pepperdine¹s Robert Kendrick. Waske was seeded in the 9-16 group, but fell to Kendrick 7-6, 6-2. New Mexico senior Matt Amgwerd also suffered an upset as the No. 9-16 seed lost to UCLA¹s Jong-Min Lee 6-4, 6-0 in the second round. In the first round of doubles play, BYU¹s duo of Gert Vilms and Damien Ward fell in straight sets to Baylor¹s team of David Hodge and Mark Williams, a No. 5-8 seed in the opening round. New Mexico¹s team of Amgwerd and Nic Dubey face Duke¹s Doug Root and Ramsey Smith this evening.
