MWC Weekly Tennis Awards BYU's James Ludlow and Olga Boulytcheva net honors
Jan. 25, 2006 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - BYU's James Ludlow and Olga Boulytcheva have been named the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively. A sophomore from Salt Lake City, Utah, Ludlow improved to 3-0 this season at the No. 1 singles position for BYU with victories last week over No. 60 Eric Molnar, 6-4, 6-1, of Colorado at the ITA Regional Championships, and UC Santa Barbara's Nick Brotman, 7-5, 1-6, 6-3. Ludlow also teamed with Jose Lechuga at the No. 1 doubles position to defeat UC Santa Barbara, 8-6. Ludlow opened the season with a No. 1 singles win over Utah State's Johannes Zelle, 6-1, 6-2, and a No. 2 singles victory vs. Weber State's Zach Rideout, 6-1, 6-1. A senior from Moscow, Russia, Boulytcheva led the Cougars to a sweep of Washington State and Washington last week. The 33rd ranked player in NCAA Division I, Boulytcheva competes at the No. 1 singles position and No. 2 doubles position for the Cougars. She defeated No. 59 Ekaterina Burduli of Washington State, 6-4, 6-2, and Dinka Hadzik (6-2, 6-3) of No. 25 Washington. Boulytcheva teamed with Sofia Holden to defeat the Washington State duo, 8-3, and the Huskies doubles squad, 8-5. Boulytcheva is unbeaten in singles (3-0) and doubles play (2-0) this season.
