MWC Tennis Players of the Week San Diego State's Markus Dickhardt, BYU's Anastasia Surkova honored
Jan. 24, 2007 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State's Markus Dickhardt and BYU's Anatasia Surkova have been named the Mountain West Conference Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, respectively. A senior from Marburg, Germany, Dickhardt opened the spring season 2-0 at the No. 2 singles position for the Aztecs with victories last week over Bobby Tam, 6-2, 6-2, of UC Riverside and Daniel Ndlela, 6-2, 6-3, of Concordia. Dickhardt and Christian Groh, the ninth-ranked doubles team in the nation, also went 2-0 at the No. 1 doubles position, defeating UC Riverside, 8-6, and Concordia, 8-3. A senior from Moscow, Russia, Surkova kicked off the spring season with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles position for the Cougars, beating Denver's Annette Aksdal, 6-1, 6-2, and Washington's Tara Simpson, 6-3, 0-6, 6-1. Surkova also went 2-0 in doubles action, teaming up with two separate partners at the No. 1 position to post wins over Denver, 8-4, and Washington, 8-3.
