Rams Place Fourth At Barona Collegiate Cup The Colorado State men's golf team completed its 2004 fall season with a fourth-place finish in the Barona Collegiate Cup on Tuesday in Lakeside, Calif.
Oct. 26, 2004 LAKESIDE, Calif. - The Colorado State men's golf team completed its 2004 fall season with a fourth-place finish in the Barona Collegiate Cup on Tuesday in Lakeside, Calif. CSU sophomore Derrick Whiting finished the tournament with a five-under-par 67 in the third round to earn a tie for seventh individually to lead the team. CSU finished with a third-round score of 283 putting the team just one stroke behind second place teams Denver and Texas A&M. BYU won team honors with an 822 while Cougar Oscar Alvarez claimed the individual championship with a 203 and a win in the second hole of a playoff with Denver's James Love. Following Whiting (207) in the individual scoring for the Rams, Kevin McAlpine and Aaron Weston both finished in a tie for ninth with a 208 while Nate Pettitt came in with a 221 and John Hayes carded a three-round total of 225. The fourth-place finish is the Rams' highest of the season and is the second top five finish of the year. CSU will compete next in February when they travel to Honolulu, Hawaii.
