Rebels Tied For Fourth After NCAA Championships Opening Round

Keeney is top UNLV individual after 1-under 69 on Wednesday.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The UNLV men's golf team shot a 4-over-par 284 during the first round of the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships on Wednesday at Caves Valley Golf Club (par 70, 7,131 yards) and sits in a tie for fourth place.

UNLV finds itself 10 shots back of team-leading Georgia after the first of four rounds. The Bulldogs were one of just two teams under par and lead the field by five shots after firing an opening-round 6-under 274.

Tennessee is also under par and in second place at 1-under. Arizona is third after shooting 2-over, while UNLV is tied with Coastal Carolina at 4-over to round out the top five.

Ryan Keeney led the Rebels on Wednesday after shooting a team-low 1-under 69. Keeney is tied for 14th, just four shots back of individual co-leaders Kevin Kisner of Georgia and Major Manning of Augusta State, who both shot 5-under 65 to lead the field. Georgia Southern's Aron Price is one shot back in third place at 4-under.

Andres Gonzales shot even-par 70 and is in a tie for 21st, Ryan Moore turned in a 2-over 72 (T49th), Travis Whisman is 3-over (T71st) and Jarred Texter rounded out the Rebel scores with a 4-over 74 (T87th).

Play continues with 18 holes on Thursday and Friday, while the final round will be played Saturday.
