Men's Golf Finishes Out Season At MWC Championships Ben Leestma has the top Air Force showing.
May 5, 2001
Upcoming: The Air Force men's golf season is complete.
Last Week: The Falcons competed in their final tournament of the season -- the Mountain West Conference Championships. The three-day event was held April 30-May 2 Crosswater Course (Par 72/7,193) at the Sunriver Resort in Sunriver, Ore.
MWC Championships: Air Force had a disappointing finish to a disappointing season, finishing in last place at the Mountain West tournament. The Falcons finished the tournament with a three-round total of 947 (332-309-306), 83 strokes above par and 57 strokes behind tournament winner Brigham Young. Three Falcon golfers captured the last three spots in the field. Ben Leestma had the top Air Force showing, finishing tied for 22nd place overall. Leestma, who has an outside shot for an individual selection to the NCAA championships, needed a stronger showing in the Mountain West tournament but a poor first round of 80 hurt his chances.
San Diego State junior John Lepak was the individual champion with a three-day total of 219. Team Scores Fin Team Scores 8 Air Force 332-309-306=947
