Utah's Alex Smith Is TSN National Player of the Year Awards continue to pile up for Utah's junior quarterback
Dec. 8, 2004 ALEX SMITH IS TSN NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE YEAR Ryan Smith and Steve Savoy make TSN All-America team. COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah quarterback Alex Smith was named The Sporting News National Player of the Year, the first Ute ever to capture the award. TSN's National Player of the Year award is the latest in a long string of honors for Alex Smith, who will be at the Home Depot Football Awards in Orlando, Fla., on Thursday, Dec. 9 as a Davey O'Brien finalist. A finalist for the Walter Camp Football Foundation Player of the Year and the Cingular Wireless/ABC Sports All-America Player of the Year, Smith was also recently named the ESPN The Magazine CoSIDA Football All-American of the Year. Smith will learn on Dec. 8 if he is a Heisman Trophy finalist. If so, he will fly from Orlando to New York City on Dec. 10 and participate in the Live Heisman Announcement on Dec. 11. -MWC-
