Turner, Brisco and Pochman Named Mountain West Conference Football Players of the Week

Pochman garners honor for the fourth time in his career.

Nov. 27, 2000

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Nate Turner (UNLV), Amar Brisco (UNLV) and Owen Pochman (BYU) were named Mountain West Conference Players of the Week for their performances on the football field last week. Pochman captured the award for the second consecutive week and fourth time in his career, while Turner and Brisco received the honor for the first time in each of their respective careers.

Nate Turner, UNLV, WR, Senior (MWC Offensive Player of the Week)
Senior wide receiver Nate Turner, from Compton, Calif., had 11 receptions for a career high 158 yards and a touchdown in the Rebels dramatic 31-24 victory at San Diego State. The 11 receptions ties the MWC record in a single-game, while the 158 receiving yards ranks fourth in MWC history and were the most by a UNLV wide out since 1997. Turner leads the team with 61 catches for 882 yards and nine touchdowns.

Amar Brisco, UNLV, CB, Senior (MWC Defensive Player of the Week)
Amar Brisco, a senior from Los Angeles, Calif., helped UNLV secure a 31-24 victory over San Diego State after intercepting SDSU's Lon Sheriff with 52 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and returning it 72 yards for the game-winning touchdown. The return marked the second-longest in MWC history. The win kept the Rebels bowl hopes alive, while also capturing their first road victory in the month of November since 1993. Brisco also tallied two tackles, one for a loss, and two pass break-ups in the game.

Owen Pochman, BYU, PK, Senior (MWC Special Teams Player of the Week)
Senior Owen Pochman, a product of Mercer Island, Wash., set a new BYU kicking record for the second straight week after connecting on four field goals (45, 38, 35 and 22) in the first half vs. Utah. He finished the game with 13 points in the Cougars 34-27 victory over the Utes. Pochman finished his career as BYU's all-time scoring leader with 332 points over four seasons.
